Carrie Grubbs has a heart for both children and for missions.  Galax Christian School provides a daily opportunity for pursuing both her love for children and missions.  Carrie received her B.A in Secondary Education as well as her M.Ed. in Education Leadership from Hobe Sound Bible College.  She is certified with both the state of Florida and Virginia and holds Head of School certification with the Association of Christian Schools International.  She and her husband, Rick, have been married for over 30 years, and they are blessed with 12 children and 6 grandchildren.

Elementary Teacher

Mrs. Jennie Haynes knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher.  She graduated from God’s Bible School and College with a Liberal Arts degree and also graduated from Booth Memorial School of Nursing as an LPN.  She and her husband served as missionaries to Brazil, South America for 14 years. During this time she taught at ACLIA (Associason Cultural da Lingua Inglesa na Amazonas ) for six years.  Later, she taught at Hobe Sound Christian Academy in Hobe Sound, Florida for twenty years.  Her philosophy of teaching is that every student has potential and that while not every student will excel academically, every student has value and a  purpose.  Welcome, Mrs. Haynes!

Bible Teacher

Pastor David Spivey is pastor at Haven of Rest Bible Church in Galax, Virginia.  He and his wife, Jamie, have five children.  Pastor Spivey graduated from the Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Illinois with a Bachelor’s degree in Theology.  He teaches Bible in the middle school and high school and takes part in chapel services.  Pastor Spivey also serves as a board member.   Thank you, Pastor Spivey!

Math and Science Tutor

Rita Key serves at Galax Christian School as a Math and Science tutor.  She received Masters degrees from Virginia Tech in Curriculum and Instruction, Ed Leadership, and Physics.

Certified in all areas of math, biology and physics, she brings many years of experience as a high school teacher in both public and private schools as well as experience at the administrative level.  She also  has 25 years of supervision and teaching for Wytheville Community College.  Thank you, and welcome!

We have a great team of four men who rotate weekly as coaches for our Physical Education classes.

Stephen LaRaviere

Stephen LaRaviere joins our team of P.E. coaches as a husband to Samantha and father to three children.  He is owner auctioneer at Matthews Auctioneers and holds a title to Virginia State Champion Auctioneer.

Derek Weaver

Derek Weaver joins the GCS team as a P.E. coach as a husband to Rebecca and father to three children.  He is store manager at Matthews Five and Dime in Galax, Virginia.  He recently completed his first solo flight as a pilot.  Welcome, Derek, and thank you!

Royal Grubbs

Royal Grubbs joins our team of P.E. coaches as a real estate investor in the Galax community.  He attended Hobe Sound Bible College and has an interest in the ministry.  Thank you, and welcome, Royal!

Daniel joins the GCS team with a special interest in horses, farm animals,  and auctioneering.  He lives in Woodlawn, Virginia with his family.  Welcome, and thank you, Daniel!

Matthew LaRaviere

Matthew LaRaviere has been instrumental in the formation of Galax Christian School and serves faithfully as a board member.  He and his wife, Becky, fill many needed roles at GCS.

Art Teacher

Eileen Telzer

Eileen has extensive experience in a variety of artistic abilities.  She most recently taught art at a homeschool coop.  Eileen especially enjoys crocheting and working with younger children and encouraging their artistic skills.  Welcome, Eileen!
